Jean Henri Fabre- The Great Entomologist

Jean Henri Fabre is known as the world’s greatest entomologist. He earnestly believed that God created all living creatures. He did not believe in evolution, the theory of creation which was being spread by Charles Darwin. Since Charles Darwin did not believe that God created living things, Mr. Fabre strongly disagreed with him. Mr. Fabre said “Without God I understand nothing, without Him all is darkness….You could take my skin more easily than my faith in God.”
Mr. Fabre was born in 1823 in France. He became a naturalist, someone who studies nature. Over his lifetime, he studied grasshoppers, sparrows, butterflies, snails, lizards, crickets, bees, wasps, and beetles because of his fascination with nature. He served as a knowledgeable teacher of science at many schools in France. Wouldn’t you want to go on a field trip with him? Sadly, he died in 1973 having made a remarkable place in history.

How to Make Good Popcorn

How would you like to learn to pop good popcorn? The first things you do is take a popcorn bag and place it in the microwave for 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Then, you carefully remove the bag from the microwave and shake it. For extra fun, put the yummy popcorn from the bag in a wicker basket which is lined with a napkin. Because you want to make a special treat, hide a delicious piece of chocolate in the popcorn. I hope you enjoy because popcorn is one of my favorite snacks!

"The Cabin Faced West"

Dear Jean Fritz,
I really liked your book The Cabin Faced West. I thought it was very neat that Ann was your great-great-great grandmother. I have really enjoyed the stories that you tell about her. My favorite part was when she met General George Washington on the road. I think you are a great writer and I hope that I can read another one of your books sometime soon.

Sincerely,
Rebecca in South Carolina

Well Begun is Half Done

“Well begun is half done” is a statement which I have had to think about this week. I believe it is a true statement because the foundation of something is very important. The foundation is where you need to start well. A building will collapse if it doesn’t have a solid foundation. A student can fail if he doesn’t understand the subject from the beginning. I also think that this is true since starting out well can make a job easier. -Rebecca in South Carolina

Rebecca's Favorite Music

My favorite musical styles are country and classical music. I especially like country music because it makes you want to tap your foot. I really like classical music because it encourages me to work harder which helps my school work. When I listen to country and classical music I feel better. What music is special to you? -Rebecca in South Carolina

Prince Edward Island

I would like to visit Prince Edward Island. I watched the movie Anne of Green Gables and saw the beautiful fields of flowers. Secondly, I like cold weather. Thirdly, I learned that Prince Edward Island is very small and I like small areas. -Rebecca in South Carolina

I Timothy 4:12

Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
