George Washington Carver was born in 1864, in Diamond Grove, Missouri, on Moses Carver’s farm. George W. Carver and his mother were captured by Confederate soldiers! Thankfully Moses found George, but his mother was never found. He left to pursue his education at age twelve since there were no schools available for blacks. He then moved to Newton County, in southwest Missouri. Later, he attended college at Iowa Agricultural College, where he gained much of his wisdom of nature. As an agricultural chemist, he discovered three-hundred different uses of peanuts, and found hundreds of different uses for soybeans. Remarkably, he made improvements on grease, bleach, buttermilk, instant coffee, and ink! What an incredible scientist. Wouldn’t you have wanted to see his laboratory? Wow!

Yummy Homemade Lemonade
Lemonade, which is a delicious cold drink, is great for hot and sunny days. It is actually quite quick and easy to make. First, pick out four bright yellow lemons, cut them in half, squeeze them, and pour the juice into a pitcher. Measure one cup of sugar in a small bowl and pour hot water over it. Mix until it is dissolved. Finally pour the hot sugar water into the pitcher and mix well. Don’t forget to put lots of ice cubes in and set it into the refrigerator to get icy cold. Now it’s ready for a nice hot sunny day. Yum!!!! My dad loves popcorn, but he can’t eat it without a cold glass of homemade lemonade.

How to Make Good Popcorn
How would you like to learn to pop good popcorn? The first things you do is take a popcorn bag and place it in the microwave for 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Then, you carefully remove the bag from the microwave and shake it. For extra fun, put the yummy popcorn from the bag in a wicker basket which is lined with a napkin. Because you want to make a special treat, hide a delicious piece of chocolate in the popcorn. I hope you enjoy because popcorn is one of my favorite snacks!
